Dr Tai, I am 64 years old and just found out a month ago I have AMD. In my short time of research I see among many other Opthamologists that hear and repeat the same miss-information or actually BS. Have you ever read the Areds 1 and Areds 2 reports yourself? Just at least go to the NIH website and read the summary results and it is very clear: “Benefit AREDS2 results; In the AREDS2 trial, adding omega-3 fatty acids or lutein + zeaxanthin to the AREDS formula had no additional overall effect on the risk of advanced AMD.” Either you are trying to give us false hope that we can do something (diet, exercise. Or supplements) that can help us avoid or slow it down, OR you are trying to make us feel guilty for not taking better care of ourselves and have caused this terrible disease. Either way I find it applauding or at least incompetent on your part for not studying and just give us the facts. I believe most of us don’t want false hope, just the truth. How long do I realistically have before I lose significant vision or stage 3 so I can plan the rest of my life accordingly.

Hello Dr. Tai, thank you for this informative video. However I do worry about the recommended Refresh Digital eye drops because the most prominent component is 0.5mg of CMC sodium. This doesn't qualify as hypotonic. Recent studies have established high sodium contents will inflame and eventually erode the epithelial layer covering the cornea. I was myopic at age 6. Glaucoma diagnosed at age 30. Cataract surgery both eyes in late 50s. Retinal detachment at 65 requiring emergency surgery which was successful. With all this I'm legally blind but can still eee enough to function. It sucks. I miss having good vision. My myopia prescription ranged from around -2.5 to -3.5 until I had cataract surgery, now I need glasses to see close instead. I think I prefer it this way but it took a while to get used to it.

I started taking Lutein . I make sure my young adults daughters takes it because they age always on phone and computers studying.

Informative video, thanks. My "suspicious glaucoma" with pressure 17-18 changed to "glaucoma", pressure 20-22, after 8 yrs; and after another 2 yrs "pseudoexfoliative" was added. Started latanoprost & gingko a year ago and got pressure down to 7-8, except for my last visit--back to 22-24. I hope the increase was due only to my nasal congestion which has finally subsided now that pollen counts are down again. Side-sleeping didn't work with nasal congestion as I immediately felt eye pressure and had to lie on my back again.

Can this come and go by itself? Within a year i had this 3-4 times. I went to see the doctor at the first time it happened, but he didn't gave me any cure. Thanks for this video. There is a supplement extracted from pineapple called Bromelain, which is also prescribed to patients after some face and noise surgery for quick healing. Probably same enzymes play a role. 4 months ago, suffering from eye floaters all of a sudden, I went to see an optician who gave me eye drops and said it would go away 3-4 months later; if not, a laser beam would fix it. . 2 weeks ago I started eating pineapples without knowing it would help me. I did find quite a few research paper after 2019 about using mixture of fruit enzyme for various eye problems including floaters. Therefore, you cannot say there is none if you did not come across yet.

I agree with the logic this doctor refer to Brazilian population. But I don't agree why no other research was conducted. Simple answer: no funding. The pharma industry does not want to see cheap remedy.

3 grams per day was used in one small study with good results for some. My ophthalmologist said I could try it with the ok from my primary care doctor. I have been on 3 grams a day for about 9 weeks and am due for a Humphrey visual field test at my next visit in mid June. I had a normal metabolic panel a few weeks ago, so the liver is probably ok. I will probably drop the dose if I do stay on it, because I think it makes me tired. And if my visual field test shows continued damage , I’ll stop the B3 altogether. I have severe glaucoma in one eye, having lost over half of my vision despite two surgeries. The other eye is better, but the loss is heading toward 10%.

In the current time, there are no cure for Glaucoma.

I hope that researchers can find a cure soon, I was diagnosed with glaucoma at 16 and have done laser surgeries and trabeculotomy on both eyes and one needling, I’m currently 17 having my second needling this Tuesday and I’m scared and exhausted because at this point, it’s hard to live with this eye condition as it causes me to skip school a lot for check ups that are mostly twice a week and the surgeries that make me see blurry for a while.
